The Promiscuous Lip Pencil coffret was the second purchase I made from the Guy Bourdin collection. Nothing else from the collection other than this lip set and the cheek palette really excited me. They were either too sheer for my taste or duplicates of permanent shades that I already own.
A limited-edition set of NARS Jumbo Lip Pencils inspired by legendary fashion photographer Guy Bourdin. Combine the convenience of a pencil with the application of a lipstick in five bestselling shades. François Nars enters the cinematic realm of lust, glamour, and innuendo exposed in Guy Bourdin’s evocative editorials with five provocative possibilities for lips. Carry it all in the included keepsake zippered cosmetics bag decked out with a pair of electric blue lips.
This set contains:
- 0.06 oz x 2 Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella, Sex Machine
- 0.08 oz x 2 Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Never Say Never, Dolce Vita
- 0.08 oz Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil in New Lover
- Keepsake cosmetics bag
How it fared:
All the Lip pencils included in the set are part of permanent range. They are travel size pencils but big enough for you to judge whether you love them or not. And if you do love them, then you can easily pick it up anytime from the permanent range.
Cruella (Scarlet red shade)
Never say Never (Pink Lilac shade)
Sex Machine(Pink mauve shade)
Dolce vita (Dusty rose shade)
New Lover(Gold infused strawberry pink shade)
There is a cosmetic bag included with the set which looks okay okay to me. It has a blue lip embellished on it with a gold colored zipper. The quality is good in the sense that it is not going to come off in the seams or tear apart easily. But is it Luxe? Uhmm…To me it appears not.But having said that, I am glad it’s included with the set. It is quite useful as a normal cosmetics bag which I guess is what it is supposed to do!
Pigmentation: They have really good pigmentation. Even the sheerest shade goes on opaque on my pigmented lips with 2-3 coats. I certainly didn’t expect that. But I really love the buildable coverage it renders.
Consistency& Texture: These pencils go on smoothly without any tugging or pulling. No matter how many coats you apply, it just feels so light on the lips. The pencils are matte and yet so non-drying on my lips. I definitely did prep my lips with a balm prior to the application but it is something I do with every one of my lipsticks. When I said it is not drying, at the same time I have to tell it is neither very moisturizing too.
Longevity: The Velvet matte pencils gave me a wear of nearly 4 hours before showing slight signs of fading. They did not disappear completely until the end of about 6 hours. The fading was even. The Velvet gloss pencil on the other hand lasted for about 2 hours before fading into oblivion. I am not complaining because it is such a delight in terms of wear comfort. Also the deeper shades in the set like cruella gave a slightly higher wear time.
Application: Being pencils these are so easy to apply. The only downside is that I hate to sharpen it. I hate to see the crumbles of the gorgeous shades on the sharpener.
Overall: The Lip pencil set is for ‘ME’. The velvet matte formula is just my type. The Promiscuous Lip pencil coffret is a winner for me.
