I was on the lookout for a liquid illuminator/luminizer and Becca seemed to be a nice option to try out. It was between this one and the Kevyn Aucoin Candlelight. Since I already own the Kevyn Aucoin Candlelight in the powder form, I finalized on The Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in moonstone. I haven’t tried out a lot of products from the brand, so I was a bit skeptical about what to expect!
A sheer crème-liquid that perfects skin with light-reflecting pearls for a soft, natural glow. Achieve a subtle luminosity. This formula features ultrafine light-reflecting pearls that melt into your skin for polished, natural-looking radiance. Water-light and sheer, it has a prismatic effect that allows it to adjust in any light, so your refined glow is never lost.
Price: $41 for 1.7oz
How it fared:
The packaging is similar to that of a foundation with a pump dispenser. It is sleek and quite travel friendly. Overall I find the packaging style simple, sleek and effective especially the pump discharge.
Becca Shimmering skin perfector comes in 4 shades. The shade Moonstone is described as pale gold. More than for use as a standalone illuminator, I wanted a product that I can easily mix and use with the foundation. Shimmering Skin perfector is perfect in both regards as a standalone luminizer as well as in conjunction with a foundation. On days when I prefer minimal makeup, I use the products alone and top with a slight dusting of NARS loose powder and Voila! I love the transformation. The SPF25+ is an added advantage.
A little amount of product goes a long way. I find that a single pump is sufficient enough to cover my face. It spreads easily without any dragging. Though hydrating, I am not sure it will provide enough hydration when used alone especially for drier skin tones. The micro shimmers in the product disperse evenly and are minute enough. They impart a subtle illuminating effect to the face. I am comfortable using it both in the natural light as well as lit indoors as the shimmers are barely noticeable once blended. In other words, I do not find that the product gives any illusion of a disco ball under any lighting.
The crème-liquid texture description is quite apt. It is not runny and does not alter the texture of the foundation when mixed. The shade moonstone looks gorgeous as a highlighter too. It blends easily and highlights beautifully rendering a fine glow.
Overall Verdict: Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector SPF25+ is going to be my partner this summer. It helps me achieve the soft illuminated look without any hassles. And SPF25+ is an added advantage.
